Author Interview: Ashantay Peters

ashantayI met Ashantay about five years ago in Charlotte. Her enthusiasm is one of the first things you notice, next is her sincerity and finally her sense of humor. Her books reflect her twisted sense of life’s random calamity and often make me laugh out loud. When I met Ashantay, she was yet unpublished, so it’s been a joy to watch her success grow with each year with each new book!

First, introduce yourself:  Hi! Im Ashantay Peters and I live in Western North Carolina, just south of Asheville. I’m retired and spend as much time as possible outside. That is, until the mosquitoes send me slapping and cursing back into the house. Born in the Midwest,  I’ve lived in multiple areas of the country, including a year traveling in an RV.

Here’s a mimosa – now let’s sit and chat!

Tell us a little bit about your book:

spiritedAttraction My latest book, Spirited Attraction, is a sort of ghost story.  The hero and heroine are nudged together and their relationship encouraged by their deceased parents. The living humans are stubborn, so it takes more than three ghosts to make their plan work.

What genre do you write?

I write humor and incorporate it into mysteries, paranormal, and contemporary stories. Oh, and one erotic novella, too!

What genre d o you read?

I mainly read Regency romance, cozy mysteries, and some light paranormal.

Thrillers on occasion.

What is your hobby or passion?

Well, keeping up with a 3/4 acre yard is more than a hobby but less than a passion at this point. Though initially, I was passionate about plantings!

When did you know, you were a writer?

Gosh, I began making up stories when I played with paper dolls as a child. Do they still make paper dolls?

What is it about writing that you hate?

The middle part of stories. I begin to flag at that point.

What is your favorite part of writing?

Beginning a book. The feeling that anything can happen before the happily ever after.

What is your elevator pitch?

Sorry to say I don’t have one. But then, I never take elevators. But, for Spirited Attraction, the log line is “Warning: ghosts at work.”

What book made you want to write?

Nancy Drew – I don’t remember which title in the series.

What do you do to keep momentum?

The book keeps me going. When the book is working so am I. And vice versa, sorry to say.

Bernard Pivot’s Q’s

  3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Ideas. I’m in love with ideas.

  6. What sound or noise do you love? Birds chirping.
  7. What sound or noise do you hate? Straight piped motorcycles in tunnels make me cringe. Outside the tunnel, I’m fine with the noise. Isn’t that strange?
  8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Forest ranger.
  9. What profession would you not like to do? Anything working under the hot sun. Maybe I should rethink forest ranger.
  10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? Ya done good, kiddo. Welcome home.
