Fan by fan…

I wrote last week’s post while in a “down” mood.  I’m usually fairly even-tempered and optimistic, but even the most Pollyanna-ish among us get the blues. Especially writers, who seem hell-bent on knocking their heads against a stone wall.

Here’s what happened after I published my self-pitying rantreading-at-the-beach

I saw a Facebook post from a reader saying she had bought two of my books — The Lunch Club and Angels Unaware — to take to the beach.

A Question of Loyalty got a five-star review.

I got an unexpected letter from a reader who loved The Lunch Club.

The thing is, not one of these people had read my post.  So not one of them was thinking, “Oh, poor thing, I’ll buy a book and make her happy.”

Nope. And the upshot is, I am happy. Happy that there are people buying my books and enjoying them. Not enough people to make the best sellers list, but I’m fine with that. Because if they share with their friends, and those friends share with theirs…who knows? I may be an overnight success in just five or ten years from now!
